A good marketing method for you to consider

I have to confess, there is one marketing method I have not talked much and it works. Guess what? It is mass faxing.

I seldom talked about this as this is not online marketing method but it works. My companies have been doing this for ten years and we generated about 30 to 40% of our business using this method alone.

We have just helped a few companies last year doing this and the results are good. And that is why I am thing to open this service to my students.

So think about this:
If you are targeting local Hong Kong customers and you find other ways of promotion are quite expensive (direct mailing, pay-per-click, etc.) and you don’t have a good customer database to promote your business, perhaps faxing can help.

We have a database of more than 60,000 fax numbers that we can help broadcasting your message to them. Think about this, if just one percent of them become your customers, you will gain 600 customers in this process.

Of course, it depends on the product type, the promotion message, etc. that I need to discuss with you to see if we should go for mass faxing.

So talk to me now using this link:

Training: Instant Website Setup Using WordPress – Last Call

Are you interested to learn how to setup a website quick, without knowing any HTML?

I have a lot of clients and students asking this question. I noted many of you have interest to learn how to setup a website without knowing any HTML.

To answer this question, what immediately comes to my mind is WordPress.

WordPress is a free and open source content management system (CMS). It has many features including a plug-in architecture and a template system. WordPress is used by over 14.7% of Alexa Internet’s “top 1 million” websites and as of August 2011 manages 22% of all new websites. WordPress is currently the most popular CMS in use on the Internet.

When I was asked by my clients what website software to use to setup a website, I always recommend using WordPress. I run more than 20 websites using WordPress myself.

As requested by some of my clients also in one-to-one coaching, now I am arranging the opportunities of organizing a charged 3-hour training (30 minute to setting up a website using WordPress) for you.

In the training, I will teach you:

  1. How to register a domain name and point to a web-hosting company
  2. How to setup a WordPress powered website in a web hosting environment within 30 minutes
  3. How to manage the basic operations of WordPress to allow you to
    • to change and manage site’s theme
    • to add pages and posts to a site
    • to arrange and setup a site’s menu
  4. How to use various WordPress Plugins to customize the WordPress to operate on a better SEO, adding AdSense code and Google Analytics Tracking code, etc.
  5. How to configure WordPress so that we can use Google Webmaster tools to submit your site to Google for indexing..

In a nutshell, you should be able to master setting up website on your own without knowing any HTML knowledge.

I have done several times last month for this training and the responses were very good. That is the reason I’d like to organize one more.

The last training session of the 30 minutes to setup a Website Using WordPress is scheduled to be held on 17 May 2012 (Thursday) in Graceyard Education Center (near Yau Ma Tei MTR station). The training session will be held from 7:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. (3 hours).

You will be provided with a dedicated temporary domain and a hosting account on our company’s server and I will walk you through the steps to setup a website effortlessly.

Certificate will be provided for participants who completed the 3-hour training.

There are only three two one spots left. So if you are interested, please click this link to register now.

See you then

Increase your Dropbox storage by 3GB by uploading photos

How to increase your Dropbox Storage by 3GB

I have been using Dropbox for years and I still love it. It can automatically synchronize your Desktop files among unlimited number of PCs under one single Dropbox account. And the file sizes uploaded and stored in the cloud storage is unlimited (not like some other services that the file size of your files uploaded to the cloud storage is limited). It also allows you to upload, download and view your files using smartphone apps on an IOS or Android platform.

However, Dropbox offers only initial 2GB storage size for its free service. That is too bad, isn’t it?

Now Dropbox offers a very generous way to add to your storage by an extra 3GB by testing beta versions of their Mac and Windows desktop applications including a new way to put all the photos and videos you take in your Dropbox called Camera Upload.

First if you have not yet registered a Dropbox account, do so using this link to get an extra 250MB of Dropbox storage (total 2.25GB)

Then download their latest beta software for your PC/Mac/Linux here:

Windows: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%201.3.21.exe
Mac OS X: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%201.3.21.dmg
Linux x86_64: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-1.3.21.tar.gz
Linux x86: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-1.3.21.tar.gz

Install the software in your desktop computer. Set it up to link to your Dropbox account by following the installation instructions.

Once done, get ready photo files that add up to 3GB size. Transfer them to the newly created folder under your Dropbox folder named Camera Uploads

Note that Dropbox will now synchronize all your photo files to your cloud storage on Dropbox. Whenever your uploaded photos hit extra 500MB mark of photo size, your storage will be increased by 500MB, until you have reached a total of 3GB.

Dropbox Storage Increased

Get extra storage for your Dropbox account

Note it takes time to upload a total of 3GB of photos. It took me more than 8 hours to do so even on broadband connection.

  1. Once you get this done with the extra storage, you can delete the photos on your Dropbox account. There is no need for you to keep them. So you can use the extra 3GB of storage to store any other files you want
  2. Actually, If you use Dropbox mobile apps on your smartphone, it should already be updated with the latest Dropbox software with Camera Upload capability. If you enable this feature in your apps, you can enjoy the same increase in storage by continuously uploading photo files from your phone to Dropbox’s Camera Uploads folder on your cloud storage. However, it takes longer time to upload 3GB of photos by your phone than a desktop computer and it also depends on whether you have 3GB of photos on your phone to be uploaded.

Google AdWords’ mechanism of Bidding for Ads Placement was a patent owned by Overture

Yahoo is raising lawsuit against Facebook for infringing 10 patents it owns. The timing is damn right. It is just before Facebook is going to be public listed.Facebook Google Yahoo! Patent Wars

This article Déjà Hoo: Yahoo Has Done the Pre-IPO Legal Shakedown Dance Before reminded me of this story back to 2002 while Google is about to be listed in stock exchange, Yahoo sued it infringing the patent owned by its subsidiary Overture. The patent is named “System and method for influencing a position on a search result list generated by a computer network search engine,” with US patent #6269361.

The mechanism of placing an advertiser’s ads according to its bidding price relative to other bidders in a search engine’s result page is the core operation model of Google AdWords. That also is the core business revenue of Google, even up till now.

The lawsuit settled with Google agreed to issue 2.7 million shares of common stock to Yahoo! in exchange for a perpetual license.

Now Yahoo! plays the same game against Facebook. Would Facebook react similarly to Google?
